Detectives from Northamptonshire Police are working with the Home Office, the British Consulate and Moroccan authorities following the arrest of a man, believed to be murder suspect Anxiang Du.

Detective Chief Inspector Tom Davies, who is leading the investigation, said: “We have been notified an arrest has been made and we are currently engaged with the appropriate authorities.

This will include confirming the identity and ensuring official extradition procedures are facilitated by the Home Office in due course.

“Currently there are no plans in place for officers to visit Morocco. We are however continuing to carry out lines of enquiry in the UK and in Morocco, supported by the Moroccan authorities.”

Du is thought to have fled the UK shortly after the deaths of university lecturer Jifeng “Jeff” Ding, his wife Ge “Helen” Chui and their two daughters Alice, 12, and Xing, 18.

The family were found stabbed to death at their home in Wootton, Northamptonshire, on April 29 last year – the same day as the royal wedding.
